Govt Finalizes Mandatory Retirement Scheme for Employees

The federal government has finalized a compulsory “Severance Package” for its employees, high level sources told ProPakistani.Sources said this package will be introduced through amendments to the Civil Servants Act, 1973, and will apply to all government employees without any exceptions or preferential treatment. The Federal Cabinet already approved an amendment earlier which integrated a Compulsory Retirement Package into the existing law. The policy specifically targets employees affected by the abolition of ministries, dissolution of departments, and government mergers.

Under the new regulations, any civil servant whose position is abolished will be eligible for the severance package. Employees will have the right to submit their application to a committee formed by the Prime Minister within seven days of being informed of their dismissal. The committee will then decide on the matter within 30 days of receiving the application.

The federal government has made it clear that the severance package is compulsory. Oddly, if a civil servant refuses to accept it, their employment will be terminated under the new rules. This amendment to the Civil Servants Act was also reviewed and approved by the Cabinet Committee for Disposal of Legislative Cases.
